Project Overview
In coordination with the Society for Range Management (SRM), Custom Ag Solutions (CAS)—in partnership with Kansas State University, the United States Cattlemen's Association, Working Ranch Radio Show, Oregon Cattlemen's Association, the National Grazing Lands Coalition, and several SRM sections—delivered a comprehensive series of both in-person and virtual workshops. These workshops equipped farmers and ranchers with knowledge on weather and price risk; explained Pasture, Rangeland, and Forage (PRF), Livestock Risk Protection (LRP), and Whole Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP) insurance products; and introduced BeefBasis.com as a practical decision tool for cattle producers. Partnership with area extension, livestock associations, and national organizations enabled us to offer producers tangible, actionable resources to make informed decisions on LRP, PRF, and WFRP.
Workshops and outreach were targeted to on-site audiences in Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas, and Kansas, and offered virtually to producers nationwide. The realized impact and reach of this effort is as follows:
- Delivery of 35 in-person training workshops (state-based) to producers in key regions, with robust participation and engagement.
- Delivery of 18 virtual training sessions to a national audience through a combination of live and on-demand formats, with exceptionally high participation—contributing to a total project touchpoint of nearly 15,000 producers across both delivery modalities.
- Promotion and education extended beyond workshops through a coordinated campaign leveraging social media, podcasts, printed newsletters, digital communications, and high-impact media partnerships (including national livestock media with extensive reach), resulting in audience engagement well above initial projections.
- Developed and distributed educational content in both print and online channels, reaching an extensive network of cattle producers. Included 45 social media cattle market blurbs with over 200,000 views—with distribution and engagement frequently exceeding targeted goals due to strategic media partnerships.
- Unrestricted access to BeefBasis.com and related decision-support tools increased by 2,098 registered users and 19,924 visits to the site during the grant time period, supporting continuous learning and self-guided decision-making.
In every category—training, resource accessibility, and media outreach—the project met or exceeded its goals, thanks to strong partnership coordination and the use of effective communication strategies. Producers across the targeted states—as well as nationwide—gained practical knowledge and tools to enhance their risk management strategies and build greater resilience within their operations.
